"It’s so New York"

Today, I took a bus going home from work. I sat down near the front, and from the back, I overheard two women talking about themselves as songwriters. The sound of words didn’t register all to my ears as I was also looking out the window and hearing other sounds in the bus. Some words I heard coming from the two women were "struggling," "new," "snobbish," "I’m writing"…. Then, as we were approaching 86th Street and Broadway, one of the women said that she would be getting off soon.

Suddenly, I heard another voice saying, "Excuse me, I overheard the two of you talking. I’m a songwriter myself. I’ll give you my card and perhaps…" One of the two women said, "Oh wow! thanks." And the third women said, "It’s so New York, isn’t it?"

The comment gave me a smile and I thought, "Yeah." I didn’t see their faces and I didn’t look to the back of the bus. I just left it, as it was, a passing sound of an event from my usual going home from work.
